Ida Roars into State Semifinals

IDA — Buchanan used two quarterbacks against Ida in the Division 5 Regional finals Friday night.

Both of them must have had nightmares about No. 88 when they tried to get to sleep later that evening.

Bryan Laux, Ida’s No. 88, recorded four solo sacks and was part of two others as the Blue Streaks punched their ticket to the first trip to the state semifinals in school history with a dominating 43-20 victory at Hemelgarn Field.

Buchanan, which averaged 42.8 points per game in winning their first 11 games, could not handle the Ida defense. The Bucks were held to a mere 26 rushing yards.

It was a dominant performance by the Ida defense which gave up a 60-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter, then blanked the Bucks until the special teams got touched for a long kickoff return in the fourth quarter.

Buchanan added a meaningless touchdown with 3:33 left.

There were plenty of defensive heroes for the Blue Streaks.

Bugg had an interception and a fumble recovery. Thomas Jennings-Boldt also had an interception, Kyle Parran and Jacob Wickenheiser recorded sacks and Oberski, Kolakowski and Jennings-Boldt broke up passes. Read more>>
