Bargaining Prohibition Stalls Amid Opposition

Reblogged in part from MEA Capitol Comments

Your activism has made a difference! This week’s sudden and rapid movement of a bill to prohibit bargaining of school calendar has stalled – thanks to the many MEA members who answered a call to action we issued Wednesday afternoon.

One Republican legislator told an MEA lobbyist House Bill 5194 is not moving for now, due to the many phone calls and emails legislators received in opposition, but he warned those concerned about the bill not to relax – it could be revived.

We need to be ready to engage on this issue and others in which the state tramples on the rights of local communities to make educational decisions that affect their children. We need to keep parents and other stakeholders aware of what’s happening, because we need all involved to act in defense of our schools.
