Whitmer made the call, but this Michigan COVID-19 shutdown is on us

It’s not so much the three weeks of new COVID-19 restrictions that’s depressing. It’s knowing that it probably won’t be just three weeks, and knowing what that could mean for exhausted restaurant owners and employees who’ve scraped by this long and for high school athletes in the midst of magical postseason runs.

And knowing that it didn’t have to be this way.

If we give a damn about our local brewpubs and breakfast joints, if we care about the mental health and dreams of high school kids, if we can be bothered to be concerned about healthcare workers and teachers, if we can see our community beyond our own little lives …

Three Week Pause

High schools, colleges, indoor restaurants, theaters closed 3 weeks by | Bridge Michigan

LANSING — Michigan is expected to shut indoor bars, restaurant dining rooms, high school classrooms and colleges for three weeks starting Wednesday as part of a new push to fight the surging coronavirus.
