Carson City-Crystal Area Schools in Montcalm County was a month into face-to-face instruction this semester when officials learned of the first coronavirus case connected to the district. A staff member contacted the district last week to say she had tested positive.

One week later, the number of COVID-19 cases in this rural district of less than 900 students had jumped to 15, a 53-year-old teaching assistant was dead, and students were back to learning at home.

“Super healthy” Appalachian State student dies following COVID-19 complications – CBS News

The University of North Carolina system reported its first coronavirus-related student death on Tuesday since several campuses reopened with at least partial in-person learning last month. Chad Dorrill, a 19-year student at Appalachian State University who his mother and former coach described as a “super healthy” athlete, died on Monday due to coronavirus complications, officials said.

Louisiana 4th grader suspended for having a BB gun in his bedroom during virtual learning – CNN

(CNN)A 9-year-old Louisiana student was suspended after a teacher reported seeing a gun in the boy’s bedroom during a virtual class.

The attorney representing the child’s family said it was a BB gun and the school went too far — applying its on-campus weapons policy without considering the privacy of the child and his family.
Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry announced Friday his office is investigating.
