An Open Letter to Prospective Teachers

Dear Prospective Teacher,

If you are a young person just entering college, or perhaps a millennial or Gen X-er looking for a career change, you should definitely not consider a career as a public school teacher.

Seriously, don’t do it.

Wasting your potential as a classroom teacher is a really bad idea. Do something else. Anything else.

Study finance and business, technology, nursing, or a host of other occupations where you will have greater job security and higher wages. Consider a job as an assistant manager at Quik Trip. Not only are the pay and benefits better, you will have more opportunities for career advancement, will be generally well-respected, and will have unlimited access to fountain drinks!

You really have no idea what you are getting yourself into if you become a teacher.

Classroom teachers, particularly those new to the profession, are more stressed and less valued than at any previous time in our history. Read more>>
