Bowman: Lakeview dress code sweep didn’t teach girls the right lessons

I still remember getting the tap on my shoulder and an order from an an assistant principal.

“Go to my office.”

I was a high school sophomore, making my way from recess to class. I grew up in southern San Diego, so I know it was a hot day, and I was wearing a tank top. Or shorts. Something incompatible with the school dress code. I can’t remember.

So, instead of hearing a lecture on algebra or world history, I instead heard a lecture about my clothes. I was sent home, picked up by my older sister, expected to change and return to school.

I stayed home.
